Description

The maui’s dolphin (aka the popoto in Māori) is a supspecies of Hector’s dolphin, and they are the smallest member of the dolphin family.

They are only found off the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island, and they are critically endangered due to careless commercial fishing methods. There are only about 50 left alive.

To learn more about them and to take action check out www.HectorsDolphins.com

The art:
This is a 10x8 watercolor painting. I'm very pleased with some aspects of the background and the bubbles. Watercolor can have a mind of it's own, it decided to listen to some of my suggestions here but not all of them. :P I plan to paint these dolphins again one day in a different medium, in a second attempt to capture them. They are ridiculously beautiful little guys.

This was my endangered species spotlight art for February 2016

This is gorgeous! Also, it's really cool that you incorporate information about endangered species in your art. Great way to raise awareness!
