:leetcrab: I HAZ A STICKERS :leetcrab:

Q: WHY ALL THESE DOLPHINS!?
A: I have loved cetaceans since I was a tiny kid - they are my original muse. I will never forget going fishing with my grandfather, and being overwhelmed with awe while watching pacific bottlenose dolphins ride the bow wave of the boat.

Q: WHAT WIZARD TAUGHT YOU HOW TO DO THIS!?
A: I've been obsessively drawing since I was a toddler, and my style and techniques evolved organically. I'm totally self taught, never took any classes or had any instruction (aside from... finger painting in grade school) and I never will, because I feel that outside influence will alter and homogenize my natural style.

Q: MAN, WHAT IS UP WITH YOUR STYLE?!
A: I am a detail oriented illustrator, one who paints with itty bitty brushes, and most of all I am a creator. I freehand all my animals and I don't strive for realism or photo-perfect anatomy - I feel that too much referencing takes away from the artistic feel of my paintings. My art comes out looking the way I visualize things in my mind. (I AM AN UNTAMED ARTBEAST GRRAWWRRRAAhh )

Q: WHY IS YOUR DIGITAL ART SO WACK?
A: :bucktooth: In digital art, I am a brand new baby beginner as of late 2014. I am teaching myself to use photoshop, from scratch, I have no idea what most of the buttons do.

Don't steal. Be good. Read below.
If you are from a conservation group and need images, let me know. (Below)

About the Art

A vigilant mother vaquita guides her rambunctious young calf through the deadly waters of their home in the Sea of Cortez.

Vaquitas are so very rare and there are so few pictures of them alive (and none of them from underwater) which is what inspired me to paint this piece - to let the viewer see and empathize with them in their own realm. The original version has them passing by a derelict gillnet. The full painting, zoomed out, can be seen here: ahzuriel.deviantart.com/art/Tr…

Link to blog entry about this, the inspiration and creative process (shows my hokey original sketch!) as well as my other vaquita art on my website here:
www.ambermarineart.com/single-…

Original is much larger than this. Drawn freehand, then many many many hours of painting stroke by stroke in photoshop, all the way down to the little scars and freckles on their skin.
Flipped zoom of calf detailing while still WIP: ahzuriel.deviantart.com/art/Va…

(This is the banner on Porpoise.org's "Save the Vaquita" page! I am so honored! ♥)

(Self-critique after the fact; DOH, I forgot to paint fetal folds on my fat lil' baby vaquita, I totally meant to. He's pretty big, maybe he's old enough that his wrinkles flattened out. >.< )

This, because the art thieves of the internet (either intentional or ignorant) use deviantart like its a one-stop free art/stock website. ARRRGH!
Why everything but my vaquita art (because of the conservation message) is now in DA storage.

• Bittersweet

I've stopped uploading art here for now, getting tired of finding unauthorized copies of my work out there. This is my career, my life's work, my art is finally my livelihood, and I am so grateful the world has seen value in my work, enough to support my childhood dream. I love to share my artwork (for viewing) and I mourn that I can't upload anything larger than a thumbnail that isn't BURIED in watermarks. My art is really detailed and I'd love for people to actually be able to see it.

• Theft
My work is all © protected. I could ignore theft it but I'm not the type to let people/companies get away with taking advantage of my creations. (*roar* JUSTICE FOR MY DOLPHINS *gavel*)
It's huge pain every time. (Adulting sucks.)
Please don't steal from me.

• Seriously, Guys
Yes, even with no intent to sell, tracing/copying/altering someone's art is stealing. Especially when people do this to someone else's creation and then call it their own.
It's disrespectful to an artist's hard work.

• ASK FOR PERMISSION
Always ask permission. Getting permission from your source is the good, honest, responsible, right thing to do. It also covers your butt from a legal/illegal intellectual property theft standpoint.
Obtain legal permission, and give credit where it is due. Crediting sources makes you look good.

• Be Original

While I'm humbled and taken aback when people find inspiration in my work... don't trace or copy my stuff, or anyone else's stuff. You're doing it wrong.
Create your own stuff - respect your work and develop your skill and your own unique style with time, practice, dedication and patience.

If you'd like to collaborate on a project, ask me! (Example; my vaquita art on conservation sites and news articles to help raise awareness - I am more than happy to help!)

Marine life artist plus beach towels equals neato
Brief message from my tummy - I have an online shop, (AmberMarineArt.com/giftshop) my artwork can be printed on all kinds of pretty things, and now that the summertimes are coming: beach towels!
Direct link to towels: bit.ly/BeachTowels2017

🎨Thank you for all the support for my artwork, guys! The purchases, the follows, the likes and comments - you have helped my dream take off and it means the world to me! (And special big thanks for the purchases, they = food! #artistlife

🐬For a porpoise: Since 2015, I've donated half of my commission from my vaquita art stuff (lookie, the five towels on the bottom row) to vaquita conservation, this year VaquitaCPR. The poor vaquita is nearly extinct, with fewer than 30 left alive. Visit VaquitaCPR.org to learn more.
